In Mrs. Highley's 8th grade class, students have been immersing themselves in the world of poetry, exploring a variety of poetic forms and unleashing their creativity through their own original poetry. They are writing haikus, tankas, cinquains, and free verse poetry. For the free verse poetry, students tried to focus on a specific emotion and then create a poem from words on a page from a book. Once the students created their poem, they then created either a design or artwork that was incorporated into the blackout poetry. As they continue their literary journey, we can't wait to see what other poetic gems they'll create and share with us! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

In a class demonstration of air pressure, Mrs. Newbury volunteered to climb into a large plastic bag. Mrs. Bopp then used a vacuum to suction out all the air from the bag. The result? The bag shrank, showcasing the immense force exerted by air pressure. This hands-on experiment brought the concept of air pressure to life, allowing us to experience firsthand the incredible 14.7 pounds per square inch of pressure that surrounds us every day. This cool demonstration was a highlight of our States of Matter lesson! Cool experiment, Mrs. Newbury! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Mrs. Perry's science classes are using duct tape, straws, and Dots candies to study waves sounds like a creative and hands-on approach! The straws and tape create a flexible "snake". This can illustrate different types of waves, such as transverse or longitudinal waves. They can also change the frequency or amplitude of the wave by moving the "snake" faster or with larger motions. What a fun experiment! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Our 6th grade science classes are beginning their human body systems unit, so a lesson with microscopes is a must! They start with onion cells, cheek cells and pond water. A microscope can open up a whole new world of crazy things, such as tiny organisms and structures aren't seen with the naked eye! Onion cells, cheek cells, and pond water all contain microorganisms that are fun to explore and learn about. Students looking at things today were a little freaked out at this find! YIKES! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Our WRJH TSA students attended the TSA Regional Competition at NEO and guess what... THEY WON 2ND PLACE!šŸ† Some of our TSA students attended the Technology Student Association Regional Conference: "Learning to Lead in a Technical World" at NEO. The students take a parliamentary procedure test to qualify for the semifinal round of competition. Semifinalists conduct an opening ceremony, items of business, parliamentary actions, and a closing ceremony. 6th grade students also attended and got to see how the competition works. We know they will be winning when they compete next year! Way to go TSA! We can't wait to see what the future holds for these young engineers! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Mrs. Highley's WIN class had a slam poetry competition. That sounds like an awesome and engaging way to get students excited about writing and performing! Slam poetry is a powerful form of expression that allows students to share their unique voices and perspectives on a variety of topics. It can be a great way to build confidence and public speaking skills too. We hope Coach Dexter's class picked the right winner! I'm sure it was a tough competition! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE
