HAPPY THIANKSGIVING
Where do overused words go when they need to be put to rest? A word graveyard! Mrs. Smith's 7th grade English classes created a word graveyard on Halloween Day. Words such as "said" and "pretty" had become exceedingly prosaic and needed to be put to rest! Students sought out alternative words using a thesaurus. Groups in each class contributed to the creation of the Overused Word Memorial Graveyard by forging headstones. Surviving words (synonyms) were listed, hence constructing a reference posters for all to use as students revised their short stories. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

How do you make spelling fun? You play games! Mrs. Mercer's WIN class played a game of WORDICAL to practice vocabulary, word building, and spelling skills. In the game, each player gets 5 random consonant cards. They roll the dice to see what 2 vowels they can work with. The player who builds the highest scoring word wins that round! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Pumpkin Pie in a Cup! Just in time for Thanksgiving! Students learned about reading a recipe! They learned measurements such as tsp for teaspoon, T for Tablespoon, fractions of measuring with cups, "pinch" and "dash", and "garnish" to decorate the tops of our pumpkin pie in a cup. We used a different technique to blend by using a baggie. We discussed all the ways to celebrate being thankful during this time of year. We also tied this into our novel that we are reading currently called "A Long Walk to Water". This was during the war in Sudan 1986 - 2009, when water was such a shortage. Being thankful! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Break ups are hard! Especially with a country! In Coach Dexter's History class, students wrote "break up" letters to Great Britain, telling the country that we "America" are no longer wanting to be a part of that country and want to be on our own! What a fun way to learn about our independence! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Future Women in Aviation! Cole Brown, Director of Operations of Tulsa International Airport, invited WRJH STEM girls to learn more about future careers in aviation and aerospace. Students were selected after writing about their interest in aviation. Women are still underrepresented in most STEM fields, so Tulsa International Airport is looking to close opportunity gaps for women in aviation. The girls experienced the Tulsa Air & Space Museum and saw the inside operations of the airport which is like a small city! Some of the highlights were checking out the equipment that clears snow off the runways, learning about Tulsa's impact on the aerospace industry and riding alongside an F-16 that was taxiing down the runway! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

🎇Cherokee Heritage Day at WRJH🎇 Our 6th grade Geography students rotated through four different stations provided by our guests from the Cherokee Heritage Center. One station was Butterbean, a game similar to Yahtzee, then Game of Graces where they used sticks to launch a hoop to each other to catch, stick ball, and a story telling station with Robert Lewis, the Cherokee storyteller. Thank you to the Cherokee Heritage Center for spending the day with us! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

What do you do with no WIFI? Jousting! During the week of no internet, 7th grade Science students spent time wrapping up their unit on energy by building jousting cars! Students were given a bag of materials they could use to build with. The objective was to build a car that would pop your opponent’s balloon while protecting your own. Certain building specifications had to be met. Teams competed in a jousting tournament with the winning team receiving a years worth of bragging rights and a full size candy bar of their choice! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE
