The junior high wrestling season has come to an end, and what a great year it was. Junior high state was the culmination and we had many boys and girls travel to Oklahoma City and compete. We had a lot of wins and some heart breaking losses, but came back with some individual hardware. We had 4 girls place in the top 6 and two of these girls were first year wrestlers. Scarlett Terherst placed 6th, and Payton Maggard placed 3rd. two more girls had great weekends with Cambry Suskey finishing 4th and Addyson Morris making the finals but coming up short and becoming a state runner-up.

The highlight of the weekend was Gunner Murray. Gunner was the 8th seed in the tournament and navigated his way all the way to the top of the podium. Gunner has had a great year wrestling mostly varsity, but wanted to take his last opportunity at the junior high state tournament. For you all that do not know, this is toughest tournament in the state. There are no classes, all classes are there. Gunner had 90 + kids in his weight, but he was the best. He proved that to everyone on Saturday, picking up a first period pin and becoming Claremore's first Junior High State Champ since 2015. No time to celebrate for this young man, because he has high school regionals in two weeks.

Congratulations to all the junior high wrestlers on a great year, time to start preparing for next year.
