Next Steps: John Brown University

Field of Studies: Psychology
Zebra Since: Pre-K

🔴 What advice you would give your freshman self? Do not put too much pressure on yourself to be a perfect student. It’s better to do the things that interest you rather than what will make you look like the smartest student. Fail a test or drop an AP class, as long as you push yourself to learn, you succeed.

🔴What has this journey taught you about yourself? This journey has taught me that life is supposed to be lived. I should not spend every hour of the day focusing on what’s coming next or even what test I could study for. I will put in the work to ensure I do my best but I should also take time to enjoy the things I love.

🔴 What does this accomplishment mean to you?  This accomplishment shows me how I can achieve the things I set my mind to.

🔴Looking back on your school experience at CPS what does being a Zebra mean to you? Being a zebra means accepting and supporting others because we can accomplish more as a team rather than against each other.

🔴What staff member impacted your life most and how in elementary school? At Westside, Ms. Braley showed her art classes what love, compassion, and creativity looked like. She encouraged her students to create what they wanted and taught us that art has no boundaries. She showed love and kindness to every person, piece of art, thought, and animal.

🔴What staff member impacted your life most and how in junior high? In WRJH, Mrs. Smith encouraged me during my time in NJHS and our leadership/stuco class. She introduced me to what being a leader can look like and taught me the beginning steps of how I can lead. She pushed me to run for officers of NJHS and STUCO which I would not have had the confidence to do without her continual support.

🔴What staff member impacted your life most and how in high school?  Mr. Cummings and Ms. Bongard have impacted me most throughout high school. Both teachers have been super welcoming and supportive. Throughout student council, Ms. Bongard has taught and guided me on how to be a leader as well as how to effectively help while others are leading. Mr. Cummings was always enthusiastic about the topics he taught and inspired me to learn about the things that truly interest me.

🔴 What is the ONE thing you absolutely take with you to college? The clothes I've stolen from my brother and sister.

🔴 What activities you have been involved in? AP / Pre-AP Programs, Christian Club, Concurrent, FCA, FCCLA, Native American Student Asso., National Honor Society, SADD, Student Council, Work Experience / Shadow / Internship (Career Development Program).

🔴 What was the hardest part (challenges) you had to overcome to achieve this honor? Getting through my Pre-AP Chemistry class might be my biggest accomplishment considering how much I still struggle to comprehend any chemistry-related concept.

🔴What are you most proud of in your high school career? I am most proud of what I have accomplished and learned in the past four years. Whether that is stepping out of my comfort zone, trying new things, or simply talking to new people, I am proud of how much I have grown.
